Essential Oils

During our nutrition sessions, you may hear me mention essential oils. Essential oils can be used to help provide relief from many different conditions including lack of appetite, anxiety, depression, overeating, pregnancy woes, lactation, infant relaxation, digestive issues and more!

WHAT ARE ESSENTIAL OILS? Essential oils are oils that have been extracted from bark, flowers, seeds, roots, leaves or fruits from various plants and trees to use for health benefits. They are highly concentrated oils because they are extracted and separated from the water in the plant through distillation. Essential oils often evoke thoughts of scented candles and day spas, but their benefits extend far beyond relaxation! Essential oils are a safe, natural option.  They have been used for centuries for their antibacterial, antimicrobial, and anti fungal properties.


WHAT ARE ESSENTIAL OILS USED FOR? Essential oils can be used as an alternative to over-the-counter medications! They are used for a wide variety of emotional and physical reasons. The list is literally endless. IBS, migraines, cold sores, bladder infections, asthma, eczema, nausea, muscle aches, anxiety, trouble sleeping, metabolism, PMS…you name it! There is an oil for EVERYTHING! And what better way to treat an illness than with something natural and pure?


Essential oils are used in THREE MAIN WAYS:
Aromatically- Oils are widely used for aromatherapy. Some of the oils are very stimulating, while others are used to calm and relax the body. To use the oils aromatically, put a few drops into a no-heat diffuser or rub underneath the nostrils.
Topically- Essential oils are easily absorbed into the skin and are totally safe to apply topically. They are quickly absorbed into the bloodstream for internal benefits throughout the body. Some oils are very strong and potent, and should be used in addition to a carrier oils such as virgin olive oil or fractionated coconut oil.

Internally- Many people are surprised to find out that many oils can be taken internally!  **Please note that there are some oils that should not be taken internally**
